Did you know that a law has been passed meaning all UK dogs must be Microchipped from 6 April 2016?

It is sad that each year more than 100,000 dogs are dumped or lost costing welfare charities and the tax payer over £57 million. The Government is bringing in compulsory microchipping for dogs starting 6th April 2016 to help reunite owners with lost or stolen pets, relieve the burden on animal charities and local authorities and protect the welfare of dogs by promoting responsible dog ownership.

After this date, dog owners who do not have their pet microchipped will face being fined up to £500.

At Pampered Paws Chorley, our dog groomers have been professionally trained in Microchipping by experienced local veterinarians.

Microchipping – Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Microchip implanted?

Implanting a microchip is a straightforward procedure similar to having an injection. We implant the chip in a standard position on your pet using a preloaded sterile implanter – this is generally under the loose skin on the back of the neck in dogs and cats.

How big is the Microchip?

A standard microchip is slightly larger than a grain of rice.

How does it work?

The microchip has a unique code which is linked to a national database. When we implant a chip we ask that you fill in a registration form and all your details are inputted into the database – your name, address and phone number, etc. If your pet is found and scanned, a reader will pull up your details. Your pet can then be returned to you safe and sound.

Can any animal be Microchipped?

We are trained in microchipping dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets.

How long does the Microchip last?

Once your pet has been microchipped it lasts for life! The microchip itself cannot be tampered with once it is implanted and the registration has no expiry date.
